Horrible Histories presents the terrific tale of Christmas marking the re-opening of Alexandra Palace. It runs from 13th – 30th December 2018. It’s up to one young boy to save Christmas when it comes under threat from a jolly man dressed in red.

Offering up a mixed bag of Victorian villains, Medieval monks, Puritan parties, Tudor treats, Horrible Histories gives us the history of Christmas. You also will meet Charles Dickens, Oliver Cromwell, King Henry VIII, St Nicholas and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer as they all join forces to save the festive season!

The Artiscape spoke to the actress Natalie Simone about her role in Horrible Christmas.

We asked her how she found the challenges of playing multiple roles
in a production;

“It really is a lot of fun to play such a range of characters!” says Simone. “Once you know how the character moves, sounds and their intention within that scene or event the entire play,” she explains, “it makes multi-rolling a lot easier. Costume always helps [to] physically change a character too.”

Of the many characters, Simone plays she told us she particularly enjoyed playing Charles Dickens’s maid. “She’s quite the [comedic] character who desperately wants Charles Dickens to write about a wizard boy for his next story” explains Simone. ” I love playing Shirley Holmes too, a detective whizzing around on a scooter (which in fact is a time-machine) in the hope [of saving] Christmas”. This she considers “totally bonkers”.

We asked Simone what attracted her to perform in the play:

Simone told us “when I was younger I was really into all the horrible histories books.”

She recalls It was the only way her parents could encourage her to learn about history. “It really is such a pleasure to perform in a play that was such a big part of my childhood,” says Simone. “The show is also incredibly fun and silly, … that’s always a bonus!”.

So what does Simone think the audience will enjoy about the play?

“The show is heartwarming, fast-paced and full of action. you follow
the adventures of Watson Williams, a young boy who is determined to save
Christmas!” says Simone.

“There are lots of moments where the audience can get
involved … to feel like they’re going on this journey with Watson. There’s
oodles of silliness and moments of real laughter and madness but it also
has a beautiful message about the importance of family and friends at
Christmas. it’s definitely one to watch to get you into the festive
spirit albeit a little horrible!”

Horrible Histories runs from 13th – 30th December 2018 at Alexandra Palace (This show is now closed).
