The Olivier award-winning, ground-breaking cabaret, La Clique is returning to the West End. With a preview on 8th of November La Clique officially opens the curtains on 15th November and runs until 6th of January 2024 in the iconic Spiegeltent in Leicester Square. As we enter the Christmas Season, you can enjoy a perfect night out at the critically acclaimed, pulse-racing show.
We spoke Chastity Belt about the upcoming show.
How did you get into doing Cabaret as a career?
Chastity: I trained as a ‘serious actress’, I loved it, but i realised it gave me almost no creative freedom! A dear friend of mine from the same acting school had fallen into MCing in a seedy cabaret club. I loved watching him and used to help him workshop his gags. He had taken on lots of shows over the xmas period, so asked to fill in with a few songs on NYE. I was hooked.
It was the first time onstage I had truly felt myself, free and creative. No one choosing my costume, gags, or songs but myself! I began MCing in the same seedy club and learned my trade, and now a decade later we’re here!
What is it you love about performing in Cabaret?
Chastity: Working alongside some of the most beautiful, passionate, creative weirdos from all over the world who’ll do literally ANYTHING for applause is the honestly best part. Just when I think I’ve seen everything, someone will come along with some madness tey’ve dreamed up in their bedroom, and I’ll fall in love all over again.
The thing that keeps me here, is the carte blanche you are handed when you decide to take the plunge as a cabaret performer. As a certain type of woman, I was boxed in as an actress. Cabaret allows me to be whatever I want to be that day. Glamourous, Powerful, Seductive, or indeed a complete goober. My choice! 😉
Can you tell us what to expect in your act at La Clique?
Chastity: I respect that you believe I have made plans further than next week! But generally, as the chanteuse, I’ll be bringing a little bit of sass, a little bit of sauce, and some very loud noises. I will be in your personal space… Get Ready…
Can you tell what an audience will enjoy from this year’s La Clique in Leicester Square?
Chastity: La clique is end to end a sensational theatre night out. You’re looked after by an incredible team, in a stunning venue, and wowed by the most sensational cast. It’s daring, different and divine.
What are you looking forward to in performing in the La Clique festival?
Chastity: As a kid that dreamed of performing in the west end, this feels like achieving that goal, but on my own terms. I’ve done a west end show, it was beautiful, but I wasn’t myself! Being able to bring all that I am, to a mad little tent right in the centre of town is very special to me. It feels like the circus has taken the square as it’s own for a few months. It feels renegade to bring the weirdness to the people in the most famous spot in town!
