Written by Alan Ayckbourn, A Chorus of Disapproval tells the story of recently widowed Guy who joins his local Amateur Light Operatic Society. With hopes he will find new friends and meaning to his life by doing so, he winds up with a lot more than he bargained for. He starts out with having to play a one-liner part in their upcoming production of The Beggar’s Opera. However, his good looks and mild manners soon see him climb his way to the leading role.

Unable to say no to wine, women and song, Guy finds himself embroiled in a series of backhand deals, steamy affairs and pub brawls.

Ayckbourn’s comedic genius comes to life in this award-winning show and promises to be a guaranteed night of blissful hilarity.

Olivia Forrest will be plays Bridget Baines in this production. The Artiscape spoke to her about her role in the play.

What attracted you to the script for A Chorus of Disapproval?

Forrest: Upon first reading Alan Ayckbourn’s A Chorus of Disapproval, I absolutely fell in love with Dafydd and his total commitment to putting on our PALOS (amateur dramatics group) production.

Can you tell us about the character you play?

Forrest: Bridgette is a one-woman band, fiercely independent and hardworking. She takes no prisoners! And answers to no one… (but Dafydd!)

How do you prepare for a role such as this?

Forrest: During the rehearsal process, I continue to investigate what kind of person she is, looking at our similarities and differences and filling in any gaps and questions I might have – both from the text and what we find in the rehearsal room.

What are you most looking forward to about performing in this play?

Forrest: I’ve had so much fun playing with our wonderful cast. I’m looking forward to embarking on our ‘journey’ of disapproval, each and every night with a different audience.

What do you think an audience will enjoy the most when they come to see A Chorus of Disapproval?

Forrest: There is singing, dancing, gossip, affairs and tears. What’s not to love?!
