Damsel Productions in association with Theatre503 presents The Amber Trap.which opens at Theatre503 on 29 AprilThe Amber Trap marks Damsel Productions’ fifth UK female-led première led as they aim to place women’s voices centre stage.

Written by Tabitha Mortiboy (Beacons) and directed by Hannah Hauer-King (The Funeral Director, Fabric), all-female theatre company Damsel Productions (Fabric, Fury, Grotty, Dry Land) presents The Amber Trap, an unsettling portrait of devotion and control.

Katie and her girlfriend Hope work at their local corner shop, where the days pass in quiet, comfortable rhythms. But when new employee Michael arrives, the sands start to shift and the air begins to thicken.

The Artiscape spoke to Misha Butler, who plays Michael, about his role in the play. Misha Butler is known for Kiss Me First (2018), Casualty (1986) and Doctors (2000).

What are you most looking forward to about performing in this play?

Primarily, exploring the depth and complexity of Tabitha’s characters and their relationships with each other. They are so beautifully written that I’m excited to bring them to life for others.

How would you describe the character you play?

Michael is definitely the odd one out in the play. He struggles a bit with understanding social cues and boundaries but, ultimately, he just wants to help the people he cares about and fix their problems.

Other than your own character, what character do you enjoy in the play?

It honestly changes every day. I am fascinated by them all! I think I relate most to Katie, because of her personality and the struggles, but I find Hope and Jo so inspiring too.

What do you think the audience will like about this production?

It’s a really multifaceted story that I think everyone can engage with. The characters and their relationships are so relatable that you can’t help but fall in love with them.
