Batsheva Dance Company is Israel’s biggest company, maintaining an extensive performance schedule locally and internationally with over 250 performances.

Ohad Naharin was appointed Artistic Director in 1990 and under a thirty-year tenure was also renowned for being the originator of innovative movement language, Gaga, which has enriched his extraordinary movement invention, revolutionized the company’s training, and emerged as a growing international force in the larger field of movement practices for both dancers and non-dancers.

In September 2018 Gili Navot assumed the role of Batsheva’s Artistic Director.

Having shot to fame in 2012 from a Saddler’s Wells run, Sadeh means ‘field’ in Hebrew, and “Sadeh21” is composed of 21 sections, or fields of movement study, set to diverse music ranging from harsh electronic clanging from Autechre & The Hafler, to compositions by David Darling, Brian Eno and Jun Miyake, a plaintive violin variation on Pachelbel’s “Canon in D major” and selections from Angelo Badalamenti’s “Mulholland Drive”.

The choreographic language is densely innovative, and the stage imagery is constantly surprising, with a provocative emotionally resonance.
