Christmas Cabaret returns to Wales Millennium Centre this December with The Lion, The B!tch and the Wardrobe, starring Cardiff drag legend Polly Amorous.
The B!tch and the Wardrobe is a salacious queer Christmas cabaret retelling a classic tale from the team that created XXXmas Carol. Step into another world filled with flirty fauns, wicked wolves, a couple of beavers and the baddest b!tch of them all – Polly Amorous.
She’s been rummaging deep in her wardrobe to find some presents, and what has she pulled out? Dazzling drag, sensational circus, sickening songs, bewitching burlesque, and some tinsel handcuffs!
It’s always winter in Narnia, but that doesn’t mean it’s not going to get H.O.T. in the company of Rahim El Habachi, Asha Jane, Foo Foo LaBelle, Eric McGill, Bunmi Odumosu and Felix Sürbe.
The Artiscape spoke to Polly Amorous about the upcoming show:
Can you tell us about the character you play?
Polly Amorous: The real beauty of the show is that, similar to last year, I get to break the fourth wall and play a fictionalised version of myself which feels quite meta. Polly Amorous is back at Wales Millennium Centre and she’s worse than ever! She’s unconvincingly set on how much she has changed as a human being and is proud of how “humble” she now is. But that all changes as her newest show falls apart around her. How will she impress all the talent scouts and agents in the audience if her very own co-stars aren’t even supporting her to put on her biggest show to date?
What have been the challenges in putting this show together?
Polly Amorous: I think the pressure we all feel after the huge success of our show XXXmas Carol last year is definitely one of the most challenging factors this time around. We put our heart and souls into the show last year and went at it with 100% so getting to come back this year, we’re determined to amp up the volume and bring you a bigger show and a larger cast all with the help of the Wales Millennium Centre! I have no doubt whatsoever that we will triumph and I’m so excited to be a part of the show again.
What are you looking forward to in performing in the show?
Walking through the doors and being greeted by everyone this year was like coming home for Christmas and seeing family members you haven’t seen all year. We are a super close knit group and I am so excited to get to go through this whole process all over again. There’s nothing quite like creating something with your friends and I hope it really shows when audiences get to see the final show.
What can audience expect from this year’s show?
Polly Amorous: Chaos. Sex. Fur Coats. We want people to walk in with an idea as to what the show is and walk out taken aback by the sheer bedlam of the show in the best possible way.
