After a sold-out run at the Menier Chocolate Factory, Tony and Olivier Award-winning director Trevor Nunn’s revival of the classic Broadway musical FIDDLER ON THE ROOF transfers to the Playhouse Theatre for a limited run. It will run from 21 March to 15 June 2019.

A father Tevye has to battle with his daughters’ choice of husbands as they contradict his view of the old traditions, opening his heart to new possibilities, within his close-knit community. This iconic musical features the songs; Tradition, Matchmaker, Matchmaker, Sunrise, Sunset and If I Were a Rich Man.

The Artiscape spoke with Molly Osborne who plays Tzeitel in this production ofFiddler On The Roof. She recently graduated from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. This marks her professional stage debut.

What attracted Osborne to this musical?

Osborne:A huge part of what I love about Fiddler is its incredibly heartfelt story. There is so much truth and honestly in the way the piece has been written, which brings a wonderful challenge to every actor involved. Each scene flows into song, all with such purpose and meaning.

What (if anything) did she find challenging in playing her character?

Osborne:Tzeitel is at a huge pinnacle point in her life at the start of the piece; the man she marries dictates her happiness for the rest of her life. There is so much at stake for her, therefore going to such extreme emotions is a wonderful personal challenge – to discover in the first place, and then also to consistently perform every night. That in particular has been a great learning curve too. The musical has some interesting characters.

We asked Osborne, what character other than her own did she find interesting and why?

Osborne: Tevye is an obvious choice, but it goes without saying his personal journey is such an incredible climb. His contemplations and personal debates are so relatable and are what make him so endearing to the audience as they loyally support and follow him through the show.

What does she think an audience will love about this show?

Osborne:All the creatives on board the project are incredible. There is so much detail in every aspect of the show and I think audiences will be able to find new things no matter how many times they watch it.
