Based on the best-selling novel by Paula Hawkins and the blockbuster film from DreamWorks, this production of Girl on the Train is adapted by Rachel Wagstaff and Duncan Abel. It is running Thursday 19 October – Sat 11 November at Salisbury Playhouse in the city of Salisbury, Wiltshire.

Every day on her way to work, Rachel watches a seemingly perfect couple from the train window, dreaming of her perfect love story. Suddenly she finds herself embroiled in a dark, twisted drama, when the woman she has been watching goes missing mysteriously.

Was Rachel responsible? Where did the blood come from? If only Rachel could remember the missing pieces in her memory, if only she hadn’t had too much to drink…

The Artiscape spoke to Phoebe Pryce about her role in the play.

Phoebe Pryce

What attracted you to the script The Girl on the Train?

Pryce: It’s a thrilling ride with a brilliantly realised female character at the helm.

Can you tell us about Anna Watson, the character you play?

Pryce: She’s the new wife of our protagonist’s ex husband, Tom. She has given up a career in the city to raise their new baby and is wrangling with all the challenges that brings while trying to manage Rachel who, against their wishes is still very much present in their life.

The Girl on the Train was made into a film in 2016, how if anything has this informed how you will play your character?

Pryce: I loved the film when it came out but I avoided watching it again when I was cast in this production to allow me to come up with my own interpretation of Anna, making for a much more exciting rehearsal process.

What are you looking forward to in performing in the production?

Pryce: It’s a brilliant cast and there’s a real ensemble feel to our production which makes it a joy to perform.

What do you think an audience will take from this production of The Girl on the Train?

Pryce: It always hard to know what to say without giving too much away but I hope they will feel like they’ve seen an exhilarating, thought provoking piece of theatre.
