A rare opportunity to own work by the pioneering Pop Artist and Cult ‘Lobstar’ Philip Colbert as he presents his first collectible prints and multiples showcase at Helm Gallery in Brighton.

Philip Colbert, the British artist often hailed as the “Godson of Andy Warhol,” is about to bring his vibrant Pop Art universe to Brighton’s Helm Gallery in an unmissable showcase: Philip Colbert – Prints and Editions. Running from 13 December 2024 to 26 January 2025, this exhibition will offer a rare opportunity to view and acquire exclusive prints from one of the most exciting contemporary Pop artists of the 21st century.

Visitors to Helm Gallery can expect an electrifying presentation of Colbert’s dynamic works, including limited edition prints of his iconic ‘battle scene’ series, along with the last few sculptures from his sought-after ‘Lobstar Collectables’ collection. The exhibition will also feature an all-new sculpture, along with a selection of toys, books, and merchandise—making this a must-see event for art collectors and Colbert fans alike.

“I became an artist when I became a Lobster,” Colbert famously declares, and his playful yet razor-sharp Lobster persona has become synonymous with his explosive approach to contemporary art. Blending the bold language of Pop Art with themes from old master paintings, Colbert creates a visual syntax as rich in historical references as it is in modern-day culture.

His work is a celebration of the present and the past, a fusion of familiar symbols—like the humble lobster—and reimagined classical narratives. Through his alter ego, the Lobstar, Colbert channels his passion for both old master techniques and contemporary digital culture, crafting a body of work that’s as intellectually rich as it is visually arresting.

One of the stars of the show will be Colbert’s monumental print Battle for Lobsteropolis V (2024), a striking Giclee print on Canson Platine paper mounted on Dibond. Measuring an impressive 115 x 160 cm (45 7/25 x 62 99/100 in), this print is a part of an edition of only 8, plus 4 Artist Proofs (AP), making it a highly collectible piece. The print’s larger-than-life scale and electrifying energy are a perfect example of Colbert’s signature style, combining playful, hyper-real symbolism with his complex visual language.

Equally exciting is Battle for Lobsteropolis I (2024), another print in the collection, which measures 145 x 200 cm (57 1/8 x 78 3/8 in), available in an edition of just 6, plus 4 APs. These ‘battle scene’ pieces, rife with drama and intensity, exemplify Colbert’s ability to capture action, power, and mythology through his Lobstar lens.

Philip Colbert, a Scottish-born artist now based in London, is recognized as one of the most influential contemporary artists. A philosophy graduate from St Andrews University, Colbert’s work spans painting, sculpture, NFTs, and virtual reality, all expressed through his cartoon lobster persona, the Lobstar. His art, showcased in prestigious venues like the Saatchi Gallery and the Serpentine, blends Pop Art with historical themes. Known as the “Godson of Andy Warhol,” Colbert’s dynamic, multifaceted approach draws comparisons to Pop Art icons like Roy Lichtenstein and Keith Haring, captivating the art world with his bold exploration of culture and art history.
