‘What Holds Us Together’: Fitzrovia Quarter Unveils All-Female Residency Exhibition at Iconic Radiant House
Fitzrovia Quarter has announced ‘What Holds Us Together’, a group exhibition showcasing new work by an all-female cohort of six artists as the culmination of its inaugural studio residency.
Presented by The Langham Estate, the exhibition runs from Monday 19th to Sunday 25th October 2026 at the Grade II-listed Radiant House on Mortimer Street, celebrating Fitzrovia’s long-standing legacy as a hub for artistic innovation and creative exchange.
Fostering Creativity in Central London
Selected from a competitive pool of 253 applicants by an expert panel, the six resident artists—Esmeralda Conde Ruiz, Jingshan Ding, Purdey Fitzherbert, Holly Keogh, Monya Riachi, and Tabitha Wilson—were granted four months of free studio space at 53 Great Portland Street from June to October 2026.
By repurposing temporarily vacant estate space awaiting refurbishment, the initiative directly addresses the acute pressure on affordable artist workspaces in central London, providing artists with the time, scale, and peer environment required to take risks and experiment across diverse media.
“Fitzrovia has always been shaped by creative exchange, and this residency gives that history a contemporary and practical expression. By making temporarily vacant space available to artists, we can directly support artistic practice while strengthening connections between artists, local cultural organisations, businesses and the wider community.”
— Greg Hutcheson, Brand and Marketing Manager, The Langham Estate
Art Inspired by the Fabric of Fitzrovia
Taking Fitzrovia as their departure point, the artists explored the neighborhood’s layered histories, architectural motifs, urban textures, and vibrant communities. Spanning painting, printmaking, sculpture, installation, writing, sound, and performance, the resulting collection reflects memory, vulnerability, coexistence, and material change.
Rather than presenting a literal portrait of the area, the works capture the subtle intersections of central London life:
- Traces of urban erosion and weathered surfaces
- Materials sourced from local fabric shops
- Soundscapes and collected imagery
- Encounters between plant, animal, and built environments
“The exhibition has grown out of the conversations, experiments and generous exchange that took place in the studios… At its heart, the residency asks what artists need in order to take risks and make meaningful work: space, time, trust and a community around them.”
— Lydia Allain Chapman & Luke O’Donovan, Curators and Residency Facilitators
Culture-Led Placemaking & Legacy
The residency marks the latest step in The Langham Estate’s ongoing strategy for culture-led placemaking across Fitzrovia Quarter, building upon previous projects such as the 2025 Mural on Mortimer commission (won by artist Oliwia Bober) and The Artist’s Corner at 55 Eastcastle Street.
To ensure a lasting legacy beyond the exhibition, The Langham Estate will acquire one work from each resident artist, founding a new collection dedicated to celebrating Fitzrovia and preserving a permanent record of the inaugural residency.
