Written and directed by Kate Duhamel, Fray is a fusion of Hip Hop dance, music, and digital visuals in which two brothers relationship is tested in both real and virtual game worlds.

Fray tells a story about two brothers who have a shared passion for gaming and Hip Hop dancing. At some point, the relationship is tested when the older brother is lured into the darker forces of this world.

Through the backdrop of large screen visuals, we see how gaming began to influence these boys from a young age and build their imagination with colourful landscapes and imaginary characters. So too are the people in real life they encounter who inspire and challenge them.

They decide to build their own game which gets rejected many times. The story plays out over many years. The video game is the key to the younger brother luring his older brother away from the darker influences in real life. The younger brother struggles with steering his brother on the right course as there is no “game controller”in real life to steer him.

Throughout the play we see beautifully choreographed hip hop dance that work with the narrative throughout to give a fascinating portrayal of the modern world of gaming and hip hop among young people.

Fray runs from 24th – 26th July at Wilton’s Music Hall in London.
