Johnny Depp is not only an amazing actor, he also is an impressive painter. There is no end to this man’s talent. The 59-year-old actor earned over £3 million after releasing 780 prints through the Castle Fine Art gallery in London. The unique artwork sold out within hours.

His first formal exhibition, “Friends & Heroes” collection, includes portraits of Bob Dylan, Al Pacino, Elisabeth Taylor and Keith Richards. He focused on people that he knew personally and people that inspired him.

These large scale pieces are impressive in terms of artistic skill and technique. They bring an expressive quality to their subjects. The mark making is exceptional. People could describe the work as similar to the Pop Art of Andy Warhol, but Depp’s work is so much more detailed and intimate in the execution. I always felt Warhol idolised his muses/subjects to the point they were iconised. Depp does something very different, he brings out their uniqueness of character, humanises them so to speak.

Castle Fine Art said “this world-first release proved to be our fastest-selling collection to date, selling out in just hours”.

This comes after Depp did a sellout tour performing with Jeff Beck, with whom he released an album.

He recently won a defamation case in the United States where his ex-wife was found to have maliciously defamed him with outrageous false accusations that began with her trying to get a favourable divorce settlement by making such claims back in 2016.

We at the Artiscape hope to see Depp continue with producing his beautiful artwork although he is also busy with his music tours and is about to start filming on his next movie.
